According to the agency, the city of Chianjur in the province of West Java, which is located 120 kilometers from Jakarta, became the epicenter of the earthquake. The earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers, then there were 25 aftershocks.

The previous earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit Indonesia in February 2022. According to various sources, from 12 to 25 people died then, another 460 were injured.
