The St. Petersburg entrepreneur and creator of the Wagner PMC Evgeny Prigozhin said that he helped Alexander Beglov become the governor of St. Petersburg and spent up to 2 billion rubles on it.
Disclaimer. The interview with Prigozhin about the conflict with Beglov was released by the Nevsky News, which is part of the Patriot media group, whose trusteeship council is headed by Prigozhin. The publication calls Prigozhin “a patriot of Russia and St. Petersburg” and in his matters praises him, for example, for “forecasts about the development of events in St. Petersburg”, which “tend to come true,” and indicates “Beglov’s mistakes”.
Help Beglov. In an interview, Prigozhin admits that he helped Beglov before and after the election. He claims that for the election of the candidate he hired a team of about 300 people, which included political technologists, sociologists, specialists from the fields of urban economy and urban planning.
Campaign costs. When asked about what funds the Flyoglov campaign took place at, Prigozhin replied that the amount did not exceed 2 billion rubles. According to him, “one important person” told him to spend “how much he wants” and promised to reimburse expenses, but did not do it.
Context. Prigozhin in the summer of 2022 admitted that he helped Beglov get the governor of St. Petersburg, but now shared the details of his version of the events. Beglova also wrote about the participation of Prigozhin in the election campaign. In 2019, Prigozhin denied his participation in the campaign.
What else. In an interview, Prigozhin calls Beglov “an extremely low -level manager” and “cheerful simpleton”. And he says that he “experiences a monstrous sense of guilt” in front of the Petersburgers for helping Beglov become a governor. “Because maybe they would not have chosen it then [without my support],” says Prigozhin. Prigogine devotes most of the interview to the stories about how Beglov allegedly saboted his projects. Even in the text there are two “reconstruction” of dialogues with Beglov in the presentation of Prigozhin, designed to show how, according to his version, the relations of the governor and businessman spoiled.
Conflict. On October 31, the creator of the Wagner PMC Evgeny Prigozhin said to the Prosecutor General’s Office that the governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov “created a criminal community in order to plunder the state budget”. Prior to this, Beglov, not naming the name Prigozhin, said that the “famous businessman” “robs children” in the field of social nutrition in St. Petersburg. On November 13, Prigozhin asked the prosecutor's office and the FSB to check Beglov under an article about the Stateizer.
Medusa, citing its sources, wrote that Smolny began to react more seriously to Prigozhin’s attacks and even created an informal “anti -podighinsky headquarters”, but the sources of the “rotunda” deny this and call “nonsense”.
