The State Duma has finally adopted a law banning the dissemination of “LGBTQ propaganda”

The State Duma unanimously adopted in the third and final reading a bill banning the dissemination of "LGBTQ propaganda", the department's press service reported.

reports The adopted bill provides for a ban on "LGBTQ propaganda" on the Internet, in the media, literature, cinema and advertising. Films demonstrating queer experiences will not receive distribution certificates, "goods" - including books - containing "propaganda" will be banned from sale. And on paid streaming services, access to the relevant materials will only be possible by clicking a button confirming age. Administrative liability is provided for "violations".

Thus, for “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations or preferences among persons of any age,” citizens will face a fine of up to 400 thousand rubles, officials – up to 500 thousand, and legal entities – up to five million rubles.

“Dissemination among minors of information demonstrating non-traditional sexual relations or capable of causing them to want to change their gender” now carries a fine of up to 200 thousand rubles for individuals, up to 400 thousand for officials, and up to four million for legal entities.

“For such violations, foreign citizens and stateless persons will face deportation from the Russian Federation,” the press release states.

In addition, the same law banned the propaganda of pedophilia. Finally, a separate organization will be created to monitor and block prohibited content. This applies to any content that is not permitted in Russia, not just content containing information about queer experiences.
