How did we make a new site

On January 25, 2024, Doxa was recognized as an “unwanted organization”.

Hi, this is Armen from the dox! And today we are launching a new site.

Exactly 8 months ago, Russian troops openly invaded Ukraine. Roskomnadzor blocked our site five days after this happened.

The reason for the blocking was our anti -war reference book on how to convince relatives justifying the war. We added it to this site too!

We moved to other addresses several times and indulged with mirrors, but in the end Roskomnadzor reached Tilda A designer that allows you to create your own site without special costs. Tilda is sadly known for blocking of opposition projects. . We used this platform from the very beginning, when there were still a small student newspaper for a couple of people. Tilda decided not only to block access to our site from Russia, but in general to completely delete it.

Tilda not only has blocked the @Doxa_Journal , and also prohibits access to our own articles published in 5 years of the magazine so that the editors can transfer them to another place.

For a month in the midst of invasion of Ukraine, we existed without a site at all-we published our articles in newsletters, posted PDF. In general, they survived as they could! It was very important for us to continue working even without a site.

When we still decided to develop a new site, we faced the question: how it should look and what we want from it. In the era of social networks, the functionality of the media sites has faded into the background, because people read the news in social networks. Rarely anyone in the browser has a bookmark with your beloved media, as it was 10 years ago.

I spent several weeks, closing the media sites around the world around the clock - large American and British publications with millions of budgets, bold media -startups, bizarre sites of art magazines. This experience was depressing: it turned out that almost all media sites are similar to each other, and the innovations maximize the design and fonts, and the less the media website resembles the media website, the better.

According to the results of this Risiesch, I realized that all media sites can be conditionally divided into two types:

1. Those that mimicize under the layout of paper newspapers - with columns of different sizes and with the main page that can be climbed;
2. And those that mimic under social networks with their endless ribbons.

Neither one nor the other really inspired me. Sites by the type of social networks with their own ecosystem will sooner or later die and lose to social networks in terms of involvement of the audience, and the newspaper sites just look very boring, and there is no need to open them: the most important and so discussed will be carried out by the stream of social networks.

And then we came up with the current appearance of the main page, inspired by the structure of our anti -war newsletter. The key feature of our main page (by the way, add it to the bookmarks!) - in the fact that you can read it. On our new site there are the same sections as in our mailing list, and the main page will be updated all the time to reflect what we consider relevant right now.

This is not an algorithmic page, it does not take into account that more Haipovo and what is less. It is quite straightforward - on it you can always see what we consider the most important and interesting

We tried to make the site such that it makes sense to enter and check on, "What is new on the dox?"

Work on our own site is a very long and difficult process, and during it we had many questions and doubts. Not all of our ideas managed to implement.
