Publisher Popcorn Books stops selling queer books due to a law passed by the State Duma banning LGBT propaganda. Today is the last day when they can be bought in stores and marketplaces.
“If you are not indifferent to the fate of our publishing house, we ask you to grab a couple of the desired books on Wildberries. We have tried to create the most comfortable conditions so that you can replenish your stocks of Popcorn under any circumstances,” the publisher noted.
On December 1, a law comes into force in Russia that completely prohibits "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" among people of all ages, and not just among minors. This law makes the sale of books featuring LGBT characters in Russia almost impossible. Violations are subject to serious fines - up to ten million rubles for legal entities.
Popcorn Books is an independent book publisher. It specializes in fiction books that deal with topics such as self-identification, racism, sexism, and attitudes towards one's own body.
