The Russian forces fighting in Ukraine accelerated the pace of their attack on Bakhmut. This is the main goal of the Russian army in the Donetsk direction.
Russian troops are trying to overcome several dozens of kilometers - there they can meet the resistance of the prepared equipment forces of the Armed Forces. Since July, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have advanced in this direction about ten kilometers.
The Russian and Ukrainian sides are already reporting fierce battles and heavy losses under Bakhmut. Conducting battles is complicated by cold, rain and risk.
Experts of the American Institute for the Study of War believe that the Russian troops will be able to take Bakhmut only at the cost of large losses. They also note that this is unlikely to give them any operational and strategic advantages.
