On the evening of December 1, the Rain TV channel showed the program “Here and now”. The presenter Alexei Korostelev suggested that everyone who wants to talk about mobilization in Russia, write to the mail of the channel or in a telegram bout.

“Many of the stories written in our mail and telegram boot become published. And we hope that many military personnel, among other things, were able to help, for example, with equipment and simply elementary amenities at the front, ”the journalist said.

On the night of December 2, the editor-in-chief of Rain Tikhon Dzyadko in his telegram channel apologized for the phrase of a journalist who "misleads the audience." He noted that Korostelev’s words “create a feeling of the viewer that the Rain TV channel is engaged in the assistance of the Russian Army.” Dzyadko emphasized that the channel was not engaged in this and will not be engaged, and the mailbox, where the audience was offered, was created to collect personal testimonies of the crimes of the Russian army in Ukraine and about violations during mobilization in Russia.

“The dissemination of information about this is necessary for awareness to the broad audience of the criminal nature of the actions of the Russian leadership, starting on February 24, 2022. All Russian citizens should know the truth about the criminal and vile war - including military personnel and mobilized ones, ”wrote the editor -in -chief of Rain, noting that the phrase of Korostelev was removed from the repetitions and record of the broadcast.

Because of the words of the journalist against the "rain", Ukrainian activists and bloggers opposed. In Latvia, where the TV channel received a broadcast license and where its editorial office is located, they started checking. It is conducted by the State Security Service (SGB) - one of the Latvian special services.

The department said that any support of Russia as an aggressor in a conflict with Ukraine is unacceptable. In this case, criminal liability is provided for the collection or transfer of financial resources or other property, the service noted. “The SGB has repeatedly warned that the transfer of the activities of Russian so -called independent media in Latvia is associated with various risks ,” the department said.

The Latvian Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevich discussed what happened to the leaders of the SSB and the Latvian National Council for the Electronic Media (NEPLP). The minister noted that any support for Russian aggression is unacceptable and must be convicted.

The Minister of Defense of Latvia, Artis Pabriks, said that the rain should return to Russia, and the residence permit of the channel employees must be canceled. “The process began,” he wrote on Twitter, but did not specify which process.

The Chairman of the Seima Latvian Rights and Public Affairs of Djisis Schmitts said that the commission of the Rain of Rain was not discussed yet. At the same time, he expressed his personal opinion that Latvia should not accept journalists from Russia. “The fact that some Russian media is opposed to Putin’s regime does not mean that it is friendly towards us,” he said, calling on to check the sources of financing “rain”.

On December 2, in the daily issue of “Here and now” the head of the information service and the host of the channel Ekaterina Kotrikadze said that Alexei Korostelev was dismissed. She said that the journalist made a phrase on the “help of Russian military personnel” - and on “rain” it is considered “erroneous and categorically unacceptable”.

According to Kotrikadze, due to Korostelev’s statement, some spectators have the impression that the TV channel is being subject to disposal of the equipment of the Russian army, which is not true. She added that the decision to dismiss the journalist was given to the leadership of the rain, but this is the only possible way out.

The rain did not engage in the rain, does not do it and will never do this in the future. We know how ambiguous the words of our colleague could sound for you, our spectators. Especially those of you who have experienced the horror of this monstrous war, especially for Ukrainians.

We have repeatedly said, and I will repeat once again: we are opposing the Russian war in Ukraine. We consider her criminal and vile, and mobilization is criminal and meaningless. Our task is to convey this to each of our viewers, to as many people as possible. On the air, the formulations are unacceptable, which can originate in our position, so we decided to stop cooperation with Alexei Korostelev from today.

This is a very difficult solution for us, but the leadership of the "rain" considers it the only true and possible. We apologize to all our viewers for the statement, which sounded on the air the day before.

Alexei Korostelev wrote in Telegram that "he was ready to dismiss for the sake of solving the problems of the channel." At the same time, he noted that he “agreed on the air”, while other media outstanding his words out of context.

“I did not call for the murder directly or indirectly. I did not urge to kill or buy funds for war for any army in the world. So I do not admit myself guilty of a crime against humanity, ”the journalist emphasized.

On December 2, it also became known that the Latvian National Council for the Electronic Media (NEPLP) fined the rain of 10 thousand euros-due to the fact that the TV channel showed a map with Crimea in Russia and used the expression "Our Army" in relation to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

For Rain, this is the second significant violation over the past months, said the chairman of the Council, Ivars Aboinsh (without specifying what was the first). For three such violations, the television channel can take a broadcast license, he added.
