There is a word, but it is not. How to recall what “democracy”, “patriotism” and “liberalism” mean in fact

From all the discoveries (wonderful; and put the stress yourself) that emigration forces me to do, it was extremely important for me that the same words in Russian and European languages ​​(in my case, in German) have different deep meanings. And I'm not even about complex political constructs such as “liberalism”, “democracy” or “patriotism”. And about the simplest words, like “balcony”, “forest”, “ass”.

Because in Russia the same balcony, in functional essence, is, as it were, undergrowth, minor loggia. Which, in turn, is responsible for the storage of things that it is a shame to use, and it is a pity to throw it away. And in Germany, the balcony is the place of the bow of the city and the village, that is, the place for the garden and even (in my house it is allowed) for barbecue. In order to completely describe what the “balcony” means in the German understanding, I had to make a small documentary , and director Andreas Drasen - a full -length feature movie “Summer on the balcony” (by the way, brilliant).

I could say the same thing about the “forest” (in the German forest a person walks along the roads, often paved, and the forest is left outside the roads and birds). But since the word “ass” is probably more interested in everyone, I will immediately go to it.

The fact is that the Germans have a different perception of the body, including those parts that are considered to be “shameful”. FKK, Freikörperkultur, “free body culture”, when naked women and men are together on the beach and in the sauna, is widespread everywhere. On the theater stage, it is difficult to find a performance where the pants are not shot (in the Berlin Komische Oper there is now “Falstaf” in the production of Barry Koski: the main character is the whole first act - with a bare back). Ass, ass and all that is connected with this is an object of constant jokes, but not only.
