HRC members named “undesirable” topics for questions to the president

The presidential administration has outlined a range of issues that should not be raised at the annual meeting of representatives of the Human Rights Council with Vladimir Putin. This is reported by “Layout”.

The meeting will take place on December 7. According to Vestk sources, this year the head of the Council, Valery Fadeev, approves all topics and issues with the presidential administration. The “undesirable” topic was the law on “fake news” about the army. The list also included questions about the extrajudicial execution of, presumably, a member of the Wagner PMC, Evgeniy Nuzhin. Another taboo topic was the protests of mobilized mothers: previously independent groups of mothers were not invited to a meeting with the president. “Very carefully” Council members should raise the issue of providing for the mobilized.

On the contrary, among the “desirable” topics for discussion will be the law on a complete ban on “LGBTQ propaganda,” which Putin signed on December 5. Earlier, Valery Fadeev said that this law “does not restrict freedom of speech.” Council members are also encouraged to ask the President questions about the “partial” mobilization so that he can once again confirm its end. Putin “will be happy to talk” about the environment, Western sanctions against Russians and the abolition of Russian culture, as well as volunteering and refugee problems.

One of the Council members, Alexander Brod, said that he plans to raise three topics: increasing the budgets of border regions, combating procedural violations in Russian courts, and protecting the rights of “compatriots who continue to face violations of their rights [abroad].”

• On November 17, Putin signed a decree changing the composition of the Human Rights Council. Among the new members are the war correspondent of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Alexander Kots, and the chairman of the presidium of the Free Donbass public movement, Elena Shishkina. Previously expelled from the HRC, Alexander Verkhovsky expressed concern that the council, which “was not particularly effective before” in terms of protecting civil liberties, could become even less effective.
