The European Commission announced the ninth package of sanctions against Russia

The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced a new package of sanctions against Russia, the ninth since the beginning of the war.

The list of restrictions will include:

• restrictions on the export of certain categories of goods, including dual-use goods and electronics,
• Suppressing the export of parts for the production of drones to the Russian Federation and to third countries, which can then sell them to the Russian Federation.
• Restrictions on broadcasting of four Russian TV channels.
• New sanctions against three Russian banks, including the Russian Regional Development Bank.

Also, about two hundred companies and individuals - the military, government employees and State Duma deputies - will be added to the sanctions lists.

For sanctions to come into force, they must be approved by the EU Council. When this will happen is still unknown.

• The EU approved the eighth package of sanctions in October. In particular, it included a ceiling on oil prices (it entered into force in early December), as well as a ban on Russians to keep crypto wallets on European exchanges.
