Same-sex marriage is recognized in the United States

US President Joe Biden signed a law that recognizes same-sex and interracial marriages at the federal level. It is reported by CNN.

“For most of our history, we have denied protection to interracial and same-sex couples. We did not treat them with due respect. But now this law establishes that interracial and same-sex marriages must be recognized as legal in every state of our country, ”said the American president.

Thousands of guests were invited to the solemn ceremony of signing the law. It took place in front of the White House.

The bill was previously approved by a majority of legislators in both houses of Congress. The document does not require the legalization of same-sex marriages throughout the country, but it obliges them to be recognized even in those states where such unions are prohibited.

This document also repeals the 1996 Law on the Protection of Marriage, which defined it as a union between a man and a woman.
