The court extended the arrest of ten defendants in the case of the telegram channel “What-to-Delat!”

The Butyrsky District Court of Moscow extended the arrest of those involved in the case of the telegram channel “What-to-Delat!” Vyacheslav Abramov, Nikita Kreshchuk, Igor Kuznetsov, Alexey Kurlov, Dmitry Lamanov, Igor Nagibin, Ildar Sadriev, Dmitry Chebanov, Zhanna Chernova and Alexey Yanochkin. This was reported by lawyer Yulia Kuznetsova, who collaborates with OVD-Info and defends Nagibin.

All defendants' terms of stay in the pre-trial detention center were extended until May 30, 2023. The exception was Maria Platonova, ex-designer of the headquarters of former State Duma candidate Anastasia Bryukhanova. Her house arrest was extended for a similar period. It also became known that all subsequent hearings in the case will be held behind closed doors.

The defendants in the case are accused of inciting mass riots (Part 1.1, Article 212 of the Criminal Code) and inciting hatred by an organized group (Clause “c”, Part 2 of Article 282 of the Criminal Code). Abramov is also charged with possession of drugs in a significant amount (Part 1 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code).

In addition, in July, a criminal case was opened against Nagibin under the article on illegal storage of explosives (Part 1 of Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code): in September 2021, during a search of his home, gunpowder was found - Nagibin claimed that he did not know who owned the substance .

Author of the telegram channel “What-to-Date!” Chebanov and four other peoplewere detained on September 5, 2021, while trying to hang a banner on the building of the Central Children's Store. Subsequently, he and three other people were arrested for 15 days under the article of petty hooliganism (Part 1 of Article 19.3 of the Administrative Code). During Chebanov's administrative arrest , it became known about criminal prosecution.

The prosecution believes that “a group of people consisting of at least 11 participants from 7 constituent entities of Russia created a network of Telegram channels aimed at organizing mass riots on the territory of the Russian Federation on the days of the single vote from September 17 to 19, 2021.”

On January 24, the Moscow City Court upheld the decision of the court of first instance to extend preventive measures for those involved in the case. This was reported by lawyer from OVD-Info Yulia Kuznetsova, who represents Maria Platonova in court.
