The ECHR awarded compensation of about 4 thousand euros to the man detained near the rally “He’s not Dimon for you”
The European Court of Human Rights ruled to pay compensation of 3,900 euros to Yuli Asoyan, who was detained at the “He’s not Dimon for you” protest in 2017. This was reported by the telegram channel “Full PC 2.0”.
The man’s interests in the complaint “Asoyan and Verbovaya v. Russia” were represented by lawyers from Memorial and OVD-Info.
The ECHR found that Russia violated Asoyan’s right to a fair trial (Article 6 of the Human Rights Convention). As stated in the resolution, the trial of the man was biased - the prosecution did not appear at the trial. The ECHR also noted a violation of a man’s right to freedom of assembly (Article 11 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights).
The police detained Asoyan near the site of the “He’s not Dimon for you” protest and kept him in a paddy wagon for more than four hours. The man denied that he had anything to do with the event, but the security forces drew up a protocol against him regarding his participation in an unapproved rally (Article 20.2 of the Administrative Code).
A Russian court imposed a fine of 15 thousand rubles on Asoyan. The only evidence in the case was the testimony of the police, and the testimony of the man himself was not taken into account. The judge rejected the request to question the police.

That day, according to various sources, from 36 to 88 thousand people in 97 cities took to the streets. In Moscow, 1,043 people were detained - more than during the rally on Bolotnaya Square on May 6, 2012. After the dispersal of the protests on March 26, nine people in three cities became involved in criminal cases. They were charged under Article 318 of the Criminal Code - use of violence against a government official.
