In 1969, the Fortunate SON song Creedence Clearwater Revival, written against the backdrop of the American invasion of Vietnam, became an unspoken anthem of anti -war movement. The composition with the words “They send you to war, and when they ask them:“ How much more should we give? ”, They answer:“ More! ”” Sounded on anti -war actions in the United States and entered the list of the greatest songs of all times according to the version of Rolling Stone magazine. Similarly, a full -scale military invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine provoked revolutionary changes in the Ukrainian musical industry.
The Ukrainian author of DOXA Vladimir Enzo tells about the transformations of the musical scene in wartime.

Since 2014, after the Euromaidan and the occupation by Russia of Crimea and the parts of Donbass, the Ukrainian society began to abandon the wilting artists of the Russian “Blue Light”, who had recently spoke to the fan base at concerts not yet presidential “95 quarter”. They were replaced by domestic performers.
Over the past eight years, many young musicians have been guided by the audience of the post -Soviet space, so songs with multimillion -dollar auditions often came out in Russian (with some exceptions, including, for example, songs of the Kazka group Kazka is a Ukrainian group performing pop music with elements of an electric log. The clip for the song "Crying" has 413 million views on YouTube. ). The theme of war, which seemed to monopolized the rock groups popular among patriotic organizations, was practically not touched upon. Preference was given to everyday problems and not the deepest, but viral texts. Ukrainians practically abandoned the "older generation" of Russian artists, leaving only the elect: for example, Valery Meladze gathered tens of thousands of fans at the Kiev Atlas Weekend festival in the summer of 2021. At the same time, the listener left in his playlist the musicians of the new school from the Russian Federation, compensating for the genre deficiencies of the Ukrainian stage.
After a full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukrainian music, a revolution occurred. The Russian language has almost disappeared from the songs, and the topic of war and the struggle against the occupation forces became central in the work of young musicians. Performers from the Russian Federation in the tops of the listened are much less common.
Below is a small selection of non -banal Ukrainian performers, who, after the war begun by Russia, gained great popularity among Ukrainians, reflecting folk experiences in their songs.
Sadsvit (Bogdan Rosvadovsky)-Indi-Pop and Post-Pank Contractor from Ivano-Frankivsk. Despite the eighteen years of age, the artist has already released two albums: Cassette and 20 & 21; As well as two mini-albums-“bustle” and “cold”-recorded together with Sad Novelist.
Bogdan writes music from the age of 13, but he received all -Ukrainian fame after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. On April 18, the Azov regiment published a video in which the Ukrainian military in city battles in Mariupol fight against Russian invaders. In musical accompaniment, the Sadsvit song “Cassette” was used, which before this was encouraged in Tiktok. The video "Azov" with the song of Bogdan began to spread telegram channels with a millionth audience.
“And then they begin to dump the videos that I was postponed by the“ Operational APU ”. And everything instantly understood [...] I just sat for about two to three hours in shock and looked at how every public in Telegram reposts this video. The channels of the arrester, still different channels for a million subscribers, ” recalls Bogdan in an interview with the Channel Culture.
Now the song “Cassette” has almost two million views on YouTube. After publishing the video, she headed the spotify Viral 50 and Shazam Top 200 charts.
Sadsvit songs can recall the work of the Kino group with Vokal Viktor Tsoi and the track “At the dawn” of the Alliance group. The performer himself explains that The Cure and Joy Division were inspired, trying to create analogues of the Russian-speaking post-punk, which was previously not in the Ukrainian segment.
After Russia's invasion of Sadsvit, the song “Svitanok” (dawn), telling about a peaceful morning, which awaits Ukrainians after the end of the won war, was released.
ㅤ
I will soon walk with fields with fields,
De soon people were happy with Svanka.
Spring Snowhole Frowned the aroma of Dukhmymynim -
Everything is Chekatit to you on your peaceful Ganka.
And we will soon walk around the fields,
Where disagreed people rejoiced at dawn.
Spring again played with fragrant aroma -
I will wait for you on my peaceful porch.
The performer also came out jointly with Morphom Ukrainian musician and sound producer. The track called "Turn Turn". In it, musicians turn to the military Armed Forces that protect Ukraine:
ㅤ
I left there, our diti know,
Hto khchishchimatim їh dim.
I left there, you mock you.
Turn to live.
And while you are there, our children know
Who will protect their house.
And while you are there, they are waiting for you.
Return alive.
Now the artist is in Vienna. On October 28, he got a new track called Silui.
We talk about Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, protests and repression. We believe that now, when dozens of media have closed or ceased to cover the war, access to independent information is more important than ever.
OTOY (Vyacheslav Drof)-rap artist from Lviv. Even before the full -scale invasion, Otoy was popular with the Ukrainian listener, recorded joint tracks with famous musicians and received high grades of his work.
“For me, Otoy is an event in Ukrainian culture. Despite the fact that arrangements are close to the rap that is preached in the West, it still has our shade. Thanks, of course, the language, the workshop of the rhyme. He copes with rhythm, like God. It’s wildly nice to listen to, ” Otoy songs commented on this in 2020.
After February 24, Vyacheslav took up volunteer activities, helping the civilian and military, and opened the charity foundation “Agov”. The war delayed the release of the debut album for an indefinite period, but at the same time OTOY released the Mini-Front by the mini-album, which the Ukrainian musical edition of the “rumor” already calls the applicant for the main album of the year.
The album combines an aggressive appeal to the Russian enemy, appropriately supplemented by guitar and drum parties (“Eneemi”), as well as lyrical monologues about the new military realities of Ukrainians (“the incentive of Novye”).
In an interview with Babel, Otoy says : his cousin Dmitry went to defend his native Mariupol back in 2014. At that time, for Otoy, according to him, the war was limited to counter-strip. Dmitry moved to Mariupol, joined Azov and started a family. After a full -scale invasion, the brother’s family left the occupied Mariupol through the Russian Federation, Belarus and Poland, deceiving the “military” “DPR” at filtration events. The connection with Dmitry disappeared on April 15, when the bridge under the armored personnel carrier, on which the defender of Mariupol erupted into Azovstal, was undermined and military equipment, along with the military, collapsed into the water. Now Dmitry is considered missing.
“I do not perceive it painful. I came to terms with the fact that everyone around was dying. Until you see the body, you will not feel pain. I like I assure myself that it does not hurt me. Of course, it hurts, ”says Vyacheslav.
The track "Miy Brother" is an ode of gratitude and respect for Dmitry, from which the artist takes an example.
ㅤ
My brother is not a start not to visited
Bo Start Prolunav Visim Rockiv.
There is a drooping supersteto, to scare the thermostat.
And all guests are welcome to hell.
My brother is not a start,
For the start sounded eight years ago.
It’s too hot here, the thermostat is hiding.
And all guests are welcome to hell.
The rapper Jockii Druce has become one of the main discoveries for the wide Ukrainian public during the war against Russia. The track "Sho Vi, Brother Moi Ridnі" was published a week after the Russian invasion and became one of the anthem of wartime. In the song, the musician urges Ukrainians not to despair at a terrible moment and be uniform before the Russian enemy. In the already cult song, Jackii Druce recalls the history of Ukraine and makes fun of the Russian state apparatus and army. An unprecedented increase in popularity did not become surprise for the rapper, since before his tracks could often be heard in the student environment.
ㅤ
Sho Vi, brother of my RIDNI, did you make it?
Sho vi over the Ekranchiki of the Golovi, huh?
Chi, then it is not Chuli, sho vorog at half?
Chi was forgotten, Yaka is our share, huh?
Sho Vi, my sisters love, doused with slides?
Not їSTA NICHO, Nashu hummed, huh?
Well, fuel, they drove, Osmili.
That, your beauty is - then ie є, fucking, our strength!
Due to the distinctive manner of circulation and text, translation into Russian seems blasphemy.
Ironous texts are one of the characteristic features of Jackii Druce. As the musician says in an interview , for him rap is a joke in which the presence of a composition, ideas and prepared rhymes is not necessary:
“Only a person who is not very culturally educated can perceive rap as a serious form of artistic expression. Hip-hop appeared and was completely formed in America. Ukrainian rap is import substitution. We looked around on the TV on the steep African Americans and decided that we would do this. ”
According to the artist, a monthly creativity brings about 2-3 thousand dollars. Jackii Druce translates most of these funds to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the song “We will dive”, Jackii Druce asks rhetorical questions about the dubious ideology of the Russian state and ironizes, describing the propaganda theses about Nazism. He also talks about the formation of a citizen, familiar to many Ukrainians after the start of a full -scale war.

Despite the fact that the video of the Balatskii indie group has hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube, there are few information about the participants of the team on the Internet. Only one and a half thousand people have signed on the Instagram of musicians.
At the first listening, the work of Balatskii may recall the lyrical songs of the Valentine Strykalo group or Bahroma. The sound of guitar reefs and vocal timbre is similar to the groups of Stereophonics and Kings of Leon. But Balatskii is an individual style with a melodic and beautiful sound of the Ukrainian language.
The full -scale invasion of Russia and the constant danger of shelling at first suspended the concert activity of the group in Ukraine. Many performers went to European tours, and some of the proceeds were sent to the needs of the Armed Forces, immigrants and civilian. Some concerts of popular musicians in Kyiv are held at the Khreshchatik metro station, but getting on them is problematic: events are rarely announced in advance. Now the musicians are beginning to return to concert halls, where there are conditions for emergency evacuation in case of air anxiety.
Since the beginning of the war, all Balatskii musicians are in the capital of Ukraine. They even held concerts in protected audiences.
Artists note that all the funds made for atmospheric basement performances were sent to the purchase and repair of cars for the military
The song "Tilki Cheki Mene" from Balatskii is devoted to the breaks, the reason for which the war was. The lyrics of the song are decorated as a lover's appeal to a girl who has forced to leave the country. The man remaining in Ukraine tells the interlocutor about the military everyday life, which he spends alone.
The creator of the group and author Yuri Balatsky says that he began to write a song after he took his family to his parents to Warsaw because of Russian shelling.
“For a while, I settled in Khmelnitsky and began to write a song. We finished her, already when we arrived in Kyiv, where the streets and houses were still empty, ”the signature of Yuri said.

The song was published two years ago, but most commentators under the official video agree that they got acquainted with the work of the group after a full -scale invasion when they abandoned Russian artists.
The folk recognition of the Ternopol musician Thekomakoma increased after the publication of short videos in Tiktok and YouTube, where the guy is in the image of a village Hutsulsky Ethnographic group of Ukrainians living in the Carpathians. The artist in love reads poems with an uncomplicated rhyme to the accompaniment of the synthesizer.
The hero, familiar to Ukrainians in the visits to the grandmother's villages, liked the audience who increased interest in national and cultural identity.
@thekomakomaua track 💔 #thekomakoma #Ukrainian #Koroleva ♬ Origanal sound - Thekomakoma
Thekomakoma is not only a newly-made hero of memes, but also a popular rave-performer with individual sound and comic tracks, which, as Ukrainian publications note, can be included both at weddings and at the funeral.
In September, Thekomakoma published the Rodina track, in which he described the fate of Natalia, a resident of the Chernihiv region, whose house was destroyed as a result of Russian invasion. The musician opened a fee for the construction of the house. After the required amount of 200,000 hryvnias was collected, he presented a new album called “Naive Album”. Songs about the Sun with the words “Sonchko Lyuba is just like that, just є” (“The sun loves us just like that, there is simply the sun”) corresponded to the name of the album. And even if the text of the composition “Zirochki” (stars) is also simple, it affects an important topic of volunteer activity, which has already become an integral part of Ukrainian everyday life.
ㅤ
Come on a little little tsil:
Zbem on a wheelbarrow, zbem on the outskirts.
I Kozhzhe will do those who deserve
In Kinzi Kintsiv, in Kinzi Kintsiv
Take a look at the zirochki in the sky,
Find your own I do not let it.
I am in the dungeons themselves
From Tobi my shoulder, from my hand.
Let's set a small goal:
We’ll collect on a wheelbarrow, collect the sight.
And everyone will have what he deserves
In the end, in the end
Look at the stars in the sky,
Find yourself and do not let it go.
And even in the darkest time
Here is my shoulder, here is my hand.

Indi-Pop Folk, Tamber Blanche, consists of Kiev residents Vladislav Lagoda and Alexandra Ganapolskaya.
Relations of the musicians are displayed in the songs of Tamber Blanche, where with the delicate vocal of Alexandra, the instrumental support of Vladislav is in harmony. One of the popular tracks of Tamber Blanche “About Kyiv” - recognition of love for Kyiv - talks about the life of youth in the Ukrainian capital with parties in the Dnieper after the exam.
The atmosphere of the track creates a feeling of approaching summer holidays and adventures, despite the fact that the cloth of cloudy autumn and constant shutdown of light (during writing this paragraph in Kyiv turned off the light)
The song “Ty Ziviy” tells about the resistance of Ukraine to the Russian invader, but the message is reported sensually, and penetrated, and, sometimes difficult to realize, without aggression. In the video for the acoustic version of the song, the musicians throughout the video look at each other against the background of the carpet, and the listener lives the emotions of every Ukrainian.
“Last Saturday, we had to complete our first tour. We would visit many Ukrainian cities that we have not seen before, we would see your happy faces and sang new songs for you. But life is an unpredictable thing, especially when your country borders on such a fucking neighbor as the Russian Federation. If the first reaction of February 24 was fear, now he was replaced by pride and confidence in victory, ” the musicians are addressing the video signature.

Military topics today are popular with Ukrainian artists and audiences. The consequences of the Russian invasion and terror are reflected in songs. Not all performers delicately integrate the topic of war into their work. Some deliberately use simple, but radical texts, justifiably believing that there will be enough of them in order to gain millions of views and gain popularity. The quality of such tracks is lower than the above.
So, the clip of the performer of Masha Kondratenko for the song “Vanka-Vstanka” scored more than 14 million views on YouTube. The lion's share of comments is in Polish and English. A playful composition about a Russian soldier who died ingloriously on Ukrainian land is popular in Tiktok and the younger generation due to a viral chorus. The song itself received ambiguous assessments because of its primitive text.
The performer of Positiff, a former member of the Time and Glass group, recorded the track “Nothing Personal”, in which he turned to citizens of the aggressor state, conveying the attitude of Ukrainians to the Russian Federation and demonstrating the illusory of the “Russian world”. And if Positiff tells how Russian society abandoned the cultural heritage of Dahl and Solzhenitsyn, preferring Milonov’s propaganda speeches with Girkin and the approval of the war (and here it is difficult to disagree with the artist), then in the second bathing the listener is provided with a myx of swearing words, which has already become a meme among Ukrainian users.
Who are you now for me?
Rusnya, rags, shit and garbage!
Rusnya, sticks, bullshit, hole, Parasha
Rush of all your rash.
@cold_blonde #blows z @positiff_ua ♬ nothing personal - positiff
And although it is now difficult to argue with the statements of the “Rush - Parasha” to the Ukrainian citizen, given the regular Russian shelling, this does not mean that such songs will be able to leave a mark in the musical industry. The list of insults is not enough for the composition to become a folk anthem. Indeed, in the end, Ukrainians will always value the style more than the use of war for situational glory and views.
