US President Joe Biden has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington for talks as the war in Ukraine enters a "new phase". John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the US National Security Council, said this in an interview with CNN.

“President [Biden] really felt that as winter approaches, as we enter a new phase of the war, this is a good opportunity for both leaders to come face to face and talk,” Kirby said.

According to him, during the talks, the presidents of the United States and Ukraine will discuss possible options for ending the war. “I have no doubt that they will talk about what, in Zelensky’s understanding, can be considered a just world, what are its components and how we can help Ukraine achieve this,” the White House representative added.

Biden and Zelenskiy are also expected to discuss further military and economic aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia, CNN notes.

The US president himself, commenting on the visit of the Ukrainian president, tweeted that they "have a lot to discuss."
