Those involved in the Mayakovsky case have their arrest extended again

The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow extended the term of detention in the pre-trial detention center for the defendants in the Mayakovsky case, Artem Kamardin, Egor Shtovbe and Nikolai Daineko, for another two months. This was reported by the online publication SOTAvision.

Thus, the young people will remain in custody until at least February 25, 2023. The investigator justified the extension of the preventive measure by the fact that those involved in the case could escape and begin to put pressure on witnesses.

The state prosecutor also noted that at the moment there are no results of Kamardin’s psychiatric examination , the waiting period for which “can reach 21 days.”

The defense provided the court with linguistic examination materials: linguists did not find “humiliation and threats of violence” in Kamardin’s poems read during the readings, which the investigation charges him with.

According to the young people’s lawyers, the investigation is “engaged in red tape,” and there is no need to keep the defendants in pre-trial detention. Yegor Shtovba's defender noted that his parents have disabilities and need care.

All three defendants in the case were present at the meeting via video link. At this time, Kamardin confirmed that the video of his apology on the “112” telegram channel was recorded under torture.

Kamardin and other participants in the “Mayakov Readings” Daineko and Shtovba are accused of inciting hatred with the threat of violence (clause “a”, part 2 of article 282 of the Criminal Code).

The reason for initiating the case was the poem “Kill me, militiaman,” which Kamardin read at the monument to Mayakovsky on September 25. The young man is charged with humiliating the dignity of “militias who took part in hostilities in the LPR and DPR” and calling for violence against them.
