Pele died

Pelé, the Brazilian soccer player who won three World Cups, has died at the age of 82. It is reported by the Associated Press. Pele is called by many the best football player in history.

The athlete was diagnosed with colon cancer. On December 26, 2022, sports manager and businessman Frank Khalid tweeted that Pelé had said goodbye to his relatives and friends. His family said that the athlete's condition continues to deteriorate.

Pele died at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

• Pelé is the only player in history to have won the World Cup three times as a player (in 1958, 1962 and 1970). In total, Pelé scored 77 goals in 92 games for Brazil. His record stood for over 50 years and was only recently repeated by Neymar.
• At the club level, Pele played for the Brazilian Santos, with whom he won the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup twice (in 1962 and 1963), and the American New York Cosmos.
• Pele was recognized as the best football player of the 20th century by the FIFA Football Commission, World Soccer and France Football, as well as the best athlete of the 20th century by the International Olympic Committee.
