According to the interlocutor, the Ministry of Digital Development plans to involve an association of developers in the development. According to him, VK , Yandex, Sberbank and Rostelecom are planning to create a company that will develop a new OS based on the open source Android , as well as a platform of mobile services compatible with it, which will replace Google Mobile Services (GMS).
“There is no formal consortium yet, but major players are ready to unite to develop a platform. It is needed by everyone who wants their applications to have adequate functionality,” said a source in the electronics market.
According to a government source, the new OS will be aimed at the consumer segment, in contrast to the Aurora operating systems from Rostelecom. It, the source notes, will be used by the government and corporate sectors “to work with sensitive data.”
