The greenhouse and the New Gazeta Europe are invited to annual hackathon for journalists, programmers, activists, employees of NPOs, researchers, IT specialists, designers and all enthusiasts of work with data. The theme of this year is “the effects of war” - this is data, visualization, research and investigations, showing the influence on society and the planet from Russian invasion of Ukraine. The total prize fund is 5800 euros. Hakaton will take place in online format on February 17-19, 2023.
February 24, 2022 will forever go down in history as the day of Russia's attack on Ukraine. As an event that has violated the usual world order, which society has yet to fully realize and study. The war carries not only clear consequences - the deaths of people, broken fate and destroyed cities - but also effects that often make themselves felt in the long run: humanitarian, economic and raw materials crisis, collapse of international relations, the collapse of security architecture created in the world for decades.
On the eve of the anniversary of the beginning of tragic events, we invite activists, employees of NPOs, researchers, journalists, programmers, IT specialists, designers and enthusiasts of work with data to create their own projects that reflect the influence on the society and planet of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
On February 17-19, the teams that have passed the preliminary selection will work on their projects in the online format. On the evening of February 19, online protection of projects and the definition of winners will be held.
The conditions of Hakaton traditionally suggest a wide format and subject of final work: the participants of the “Footer 2023” will create research, investigations and visualization based on data.
The organizers identify several thematic directions:
Both teams and individual specialists are allowed to participate in Khakaton. For the safety of the event, the organizers reserve the right to verify the applicants by open sources. Register to take part in Hakaton.
The total Khakaton fund - 5800 euros - will be aimed at revising and launching (publication) of the best projects. All participants will also receive information support on the resources of Novaya Gazeta Europe and the greenhouses of social technologies in the further promotion of their work.
Hakaton "The spotlight" always tried to help the community of the Date activists to explore the most pressing issues. In 2022, and for now, in 2023, there is simply no more urgent issue than the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. This catastrophic phenomenon affects all, often far beyond the borders of the two countries participating in the conflict. We believe that the effects of war need careful civil study and discussion.
The main platforms for work will be the own platform of the organizers of the Hakaton, as well as a safe messenger. Registration for Hakaton is open to participants from around the world, however, if you or your team are in Russia, we urge to carefully evaluate the risks with which your participation in Hakaton may be associated. For their part, the organizers will do everything possible to help you minimize them. We collect only the data that is necessary for the internal identification of the participants in the event - we do not publish and do not transfer them to third parties. Participation in the public part of Hakaton - Project protection - is possible on an anonymous basis.
Registration for Hakaton is open at the link . The organizers of the hackathon check (verify) all applications, so you will receive a decision on your participation within 5 days. Registration is open until February 12, 2023 inclusive.
