A human rights activist, collaborating with Memorial, was arrested in Belarus for 15 days

In Minsk, a human rights activist and journalist Yekaterina Yanshin was detained for 15 days. Catherine collaborated with the Center for Human Rights Protection "Memorial". The human rights defenders themselves report the detention.

Catherine arrived in Minsk as an independent observer in the “Vasny” case. On January 5, she was detained immediately after the meeting from the court bailiffs, and, as suggested in the Memorial, the KGB officers. She was brought into the office “for conversation”.

According to the bailiffs, Catherine violated order during the meeting and allegedly took a photo and broadcast. The security forces said that she would be taken to the RUVD of the Moscow District, where they would “draw up a document”. The co -chair of the Center for Protection of Human Rights “Memorial” Oleg Orlov said that the security forces threatened to withdraw him by force from the court building.

After that, there was no connection with Catherine. The Moscow police department announced that they did not bring it to them. On January 6, it became known that Catherine is in the temporary detention center on the surroundings, after which she was taken to the court. Judge Tatyana Motyl found Yanshin guilty of "Small hooliganism" And she sent her for 15 days of arrest.

According to Memorial, the court was carried out with multiple violations - Catherine did not allow him to personally talk with a lawyer, and also made up the protocols with errors. They said that Catherine supposedly “screamed obscenities and cursed” in the RUVD. Yanshina herself denies this. The court did not provide any evidence except the words of the security forces.

Ekaterina Yanshina is still in the IVS on the surroundings. According to the Memorial, the security forces refuse to give her any programs due to “covid measures”. Even the transmission of drugs is impossible - only close relatives_s can bring them.
