After a long festive weekend, two political scandals flared up in Russia at once: the first-due to the "video reception" of the Kursk deputy from Mexico, the second-again due to the posts of former president Dmitry Medvedev. In both cases, Russian politicians threatened with physical reproduction to the behavior of whom they were unhappy. The new newspaper Europe talked with several experts about why such threats appear more and more and how the political structure of Russia is changing because of this.

Threat of sledgehammer for holidays in Mexico

On Christmas Eve, January 6, the Typical Kursk telegram channel posted a video with the deputy of the Kursk Regional Duma Maxim Vasiliev, who at that time was resting on the beach in Mexico. In the video, the deputy drinks a cocktail and congratulates everyone a Happy New Year, wanting "a lot of money and good mood." According to Telegram channel, on vacation was his wife Svetlana Vasilieva. “In our opinion, the guys set a wrong example of patriotic education, although they consider themselves patriots,” the video from the deputy was accompanied by such a signature.

After the publication of the “Video Convert from Mexico”, among the first, they were outraged by the Governor of the Kursk Region Roman Starovoit, complaining that he could not punish the deputy “on the party line”, since it is not in the party. Then Vasiliev himself spoke out. “I consider criticism to me unreasonable and inflated. The video was staged for my loved ones, I specially bought this hat and a Mexican style shirt and learned a couple of phrases in Spanish. I shot a video for them, well, I sent to Kursk to my friends, ”the deputy noted . According to him, they are referred to by the telegram channel “Rise”-the video came to the “representative of Western Ukraine, with whom they were friends to his”, this former comrade and published it on the Internet.

Despite the deputy’s attempt to justify himself, over the next hours, the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Andrei Turchak joined Vasiliev’s conviction. “I don’t know what to encourage the Vasilyevs to this decision:“ the sledgehammer of Wagner ”,“ kicking old-wing ”or awareness of his insignificance, albeit belated, but I hope that after the New Year holidays the ranks of the Kursk deputies will thin,” he wrote in his telegram channel.

“Honestly, I don’t see anything strange that the deputy went to rest in Mexico,” says political scientist Fedor Krasheninnikov. - I think this aroused everyone for only one reason: great efforts are made to turn this war into a folk one: after all, it is necessary that people feel that this is directly regarding everyone and everyone. Of course, the relaxed life of the elite is contrary to this mythology - since there is a popular war, it is not very clear why the deputy went to Mexico, and not to fight, for example.

Ideologists are worried that the people do not want to perceive this war as folk, that people are trying to fence away from it and do not want to participate in this. ”

While still the Governor of the Pskov region, in 2010 Andrei Turchak was offended by the statements of journalist Oleg Kashin in his blog and demanded an apology that Kashin refused to bring Tourchak. After that, the journalist was attacked and beaten by reinforcement: according to Kashin himself and the attackers himself, it was Turchak who organized the attempt on him.

“Tourchak Jr. could always afford such statements and actions, this is the first. The second - the issue with Oleg Kashin was resolved in almost the same method of sledgehammer. And the third: according to some reports, Turchak has a joint, not very legal business with Prigozhin in Sudan, that is, Turchak and Prigozhin are partners, said political scientist Ivan Preobrazhensky. - The statement of Turchak only confirms that he is not a parliamentary politician and not a normal Western -type politician, and that he is a Prigozhin ally in the inter -plane struggle. He is ready to use any unlawful methods, which, in general, also did not particularly doubt anyone. ”

The Secretary General of United Russia Andrei Turchak was able to significantly increase his influence in Russian politics after February 24, including due to aggressive rhetoric towards people, in his opinion, supporting the war with Ukraine, is not enough. He himself has repeatedly visited the occupied territories and approved the trips of other deputies from United Russia, despite the objections of the State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.

“In the elites, this development of events is not at all happy, because they understand that they may be extreme in this story-not all of the same deputies, but someone. And the conditional Prigozhin and the same Turchak use this opportunity to redo property. As for the population, I think that on the surface we will see, as usual, support, because any radical statement in Russian society before the war caused support as a whole. Restore the death penalty. Hooray! Take the property from someone? Hooray! With a sledgehammer on the head? Hooray! In this sense, we are not talking about any group reflection. But if you start deep research or research by the focus groups, then, most likely, the results will show that, of course, the Russians do not support this, because just like the elites, most of them still understand that unlawful methods are immediately extended to everyone. And they already have no protection - it was still not enough for this state without trial and investigation to give a sledgehammer on the head, ”summarizes Preobrazhensky.

"They enjoy Putin's support"

“There, in the vast expanses of the Internet/telegrams, a discussion resumed about how to be with traitors, who went over to the enemy and who wanted to death their fatherland. Including with some insignificant strokes of shit, which until recently ranked themselves to the so -called intellectual elite. <...> ... if the law does not work or does not reach the goal, then according to the special rules of wartime. Let us recall the experience of the Great Patriotic War, and other countries. In the days of wars there have always been such special rules. And quiet groups of impeccably inconspicuous people who perform them efficiently. ” About this in his telegram channel, after celebrated Christmas, the former president Dmitry Medvedev reasoned , offering during the war in Ukraine "to act with traitors not by law, but in fairness."

After the start of the war, the rhetoric of the former president, whom many considered a person of liberal views, became one of the most bloodthirsty. Most often, in his telegram channel, which Medvedev started only after the start of the war, he offends people of other views or those who left the country, calling them “a variety of grunting out-of-wakes” and urging them to apply the most stringent measures to them, even if they violate any laws and the constitution.

“As far as I remember, when there was an amendments to the Constitution, all supporters of the changes shouted that the constitution is a terribly important document, and here, sorry, the former president offers this important document simply spit,” the political scientist Krasheninnikov is indignant. “But I do not believe that it will reach precisely for the reason that officials loyal to Putin, bureaucrats would like to preserve at least the appearance of a normal situation.” Because if you can completely cancel everything, to plug this military man, something too quickly will reach them too. In the end, let's fantasize. Since you don’t need to live on the laws anymore, it turns out, and the State Duma is not needed. And since we are all parliament, then why not all these deputies go to the front? If I were a deputy, then I would be honest, I was very worried about this. ”

After several posts of Dmitry Medvedev, the senator of the Federation Council and the author of many Russian laws Andrei Klishas entered into a discussion with him. “Politicians who call to stop“ playing by the rules ”and not pay attention to the Constitution should leave the constitutional authorities of the country,” he wrote in his telegram channel. According to political scientists, the dispute of Klishas and Medvedev shows the struggle for the status quo in Russian politics, which unfolded after the start of the war.

The chosen by Dmitry Medvedev, aggressive rhetoric, nevertheless, is sympathetized by President Vladimir Putin, Preobrazhensky believes. According to the political scientist, this is also said by the fact that at the end of 2022, Medvedev received the post of first deputy military-industrial commission, which is headed by the president himself.

However, experts interviewed by Novo-Europe, the opinion that the aggressive rhetoric of some politicians intensified in recent months has not been approved for the most part of Russian society. “Indeed, there is a small percentage of people who have been in a state of hysteria for many months or years and on which Putin's propaganda has been working. This is most often more or less adult or under the influence of TV people who dream of a strong hand, about Stalin.

They dream that you need to start according to the laws of wartime to shoot, hang, kill. But most of the citizens, as far as I can judge, is generally not very deepened into all this.

Basically, they try to move away from the horrors, to delve into all and be interested only in the issues that concern their persons or their loved ones, namely mobilization and survival. After all, with the outbreak of war, it was no easier to live. Therefore, I do not think that we can generally say that there is a purposeful work for all Russian citizens by Medvedev. Rather, those who write such things work on a small layer of ultrafashists in the international sense of the word, that is, on the supporters of a tough state, dictatorship, trampling all laws, ”says Fedor Krasheninnikov. - All other citizens are not interested in Medvedev, he never used special popularity among citizens. In addition, if it were shown on the TV channel, maybe it would be noticeable, but in telegram channels this is written for you and me so that we will read and discuss this. I doubt that the so-called “deep people” reads Medvedev’s telegram channel. ”
