Supporters of the former President of Brazil are in the capital and want a military dictatorship in the country again. Are they serious?

On January 8, thousands of supporters of the former President of Brazil Zhira Bolsonaru took to the streets of Brazilia, the capital of the country. They entered into clashes with the police and stormed several government buildings at once.

In the fall of 2022, Zhir Bolsonaru lost the presidential election, and the demonstrators demanded to reconsider their results. This happened a week after the inauguration of the new president of Lula da Silva.

The police managed to oust protesters from government buildings on the day of the assault. More than 400 participants in the pogroms were arrested.

Zhir Bolsonaru himself did not publicly support his supporters. The current president of the country Lula da Silva called the demonstrators “fanatical fascists” and stated that the events that occurred were “barbarism”, which was not in Brazil.
