In Russia, the “kraken” was identified for the first time - this is a more contagious subtype of omicron. There are no plans to introduce restrictions yet

Rospotrebnadzor reported that the first case of infection with the Kraken subtype of omicron was recorded in the Penza region. Interfax notes that it is highly contagious, but the course of the disease is assessed as mild.

“The first case of infection with the omicron subvariant virus XBB.1.5 “kraken” was recorded in the Penza region, as part of the monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 genome sequencing data,” the agency reports.

There are no plans to introduce any restrictions in this regard, the Rospotrebnadzor noted.
