Andrei Kartapolov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, said that people from 18 to 30 years old could fall under the spring draft in 2023.
So, according to him, the process of raising the draft age, announced in December by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, will begin to take place. Shoigu at the same time argued that the minimum age for conscription would be 21 years, and the limit would rise from 27 to 30 years.
Kartapolov called this approach a “mixed type” conscription and explained its necessity by the fact that the military registration and enlistment offices will have to figure out how many people fall under the new requirements.
“Relatively speaking, the military commissariat is in charge of one hundred people aged 21 to 30 who did not do military service and did not have sufficient grounds for this. A military task - 200 people. Accordingly, half of them will be people aged 18 years, as it was before, half - people from 21 to 30 years old. And this is how we will gradually switch to the new system, gradually increasing the draft age in each campaign,” he said.
