An explosion occurred on a gas pipeline in the Pasvalsky district of Lithuania. This is reported by the Lithuanian TV channel LRT.
The police reported that a fire pillar about 50 m high appeared at the explosion site. At the moment, the fire has been localized.
According to LRT, the local authorities decided to evacuate the village of Valakelai located near the gas pipeline. Also blocked the road near this settlement.
According to preliminary data, no one was hurt.
The gas pipeline where the explosion occurred is used to supply gas to the northern part of Lithuania and transport gas to Latvia.
“We regret this incident in the gas pipeline system. We immediately began to investigate the circumstances of the incident and ensure gas supply to consumers. Currently, all our efforts and the efforts of the responsible services are aimed at eliminating the consequences of the fire and ensuring safety,” said Nemunas Biknius, CEO of Amber Grid.
The gas supply through the damaged gas pipeline was immediately stopped, but the consumers of the Pasvalsky district are already supplied with gas through the neighboring gas pipeline.
