The singer, actor and director Vakhtang Kikabidze died at the age of 84, reports the Georgian television channel Mtavari Arch.

The producer of the artist Rati Absanidze told RIA Novosti that the last few weeks Kikabidze was in one of the hospitals in Tbilisi. “Everyone knows that for many years he had had health problems, and this had an influence,” he said.

As expected, farewell to Kikabidze will be held on January 19.

Vakhtang Kikabidze is one of the most popular pop artists in the USSR. He began his musical career in 1959, performed in several groups, and since the 1980s-solo. Among the most famous songs: “Seeing out love”, “Chito-Gvrito”, “heartless”, “You can’t tell everything in the song”, “Stay, Youth”, “That's the whole conversation”, “Memory”, “My years”, “Father's song”.

Kikabidze - People's Artist of the Georgian SSR. He made his debut in the cinema in 1966, starring in the film by Nikolai Sanishvili "Meeting in the Mountains." Kikabidze was widely known after the release of the films "Do not grieve!" and Mimino.

In total, there are more than 20 paintings in the filmography of Kikabidze, including the “Melodies of the Veriysky Quarter” (1974), “The missing expedition” (1976), “TASS is authorized to declare ...” (1984), “Love with an accent” (2012), “Grandfather 005” (2013) and others.

Since 2008, when Russia has invaded Georgia, Vakhtang Kikabidze has not performed in Russia.

In October 2020, Kikabidze was elected by the deputy of the Georgian Parliament X A convocation on the party list of the Electoral Bloc “Unified National Movement - the United Opposition“ Strength in Unity ”.
