The number of the Russian army will increase to 1.5 million troops

Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to increase the number of Russian army to 1.5 million military personnel. This was stated by Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu during a meeting of the department.

According to the head of the Ministry of Defense, "to ensure the military security of the state, to protect new subjects and critical objects of the Russian Federation is possible only by strengthening the key structural components of the Armed Forces."

What else said Shoigu:

• The Ministry of Defense will create two new interspecific strategic territorial associations of the Armed Forces - the Moscow and Leningrad military districts.
• In the occupied territories of Ukraine, “self -sufficient groups of troops” will appear.
• The security forces will strengthen the “fighting component” of the Navy, the Airospace forces and the strategic missile forces.
• The agency will form an army corps in the Republic of Karelia, three motorized rifle divisions as part of the ground forces and two landing and navigation divisions in the Airborne Forces.
• The Ministry of Defense reforms seven motorized rifle brigades in motorized rifle divisions.

The Minister of Defense also instructed his deputies to “pay special attention” to the set of military personnel under the contract, increase the number of training grounds, and prepare more military specialists.

The Ministry of Defense plans to fulfill the instructions of Shoigu from 2023 to 2026.
