Members of the European Parliament voted for the creation of a tribunal over Putin and Lukashenko

Members of the European Parliament (EP) by a majority vote adopted a resolution on the establishment of a tribunal to consider Russia's war crimes in Ukraine, according to the official website of the EP.

472 MPs supported the initiative, 19 voted against and 33 abstained.

The EP notes that the mechanisms for the work of such a tribunal have not yet been developed. At the same time, European parliamentarians believe that he should have jurisdiction to investigate the activities of not only Russian President Vladimir Putin, but also Alexander Lukashenko and his associates in Belarus.

“The creation of this tribunal will send a very clear signal to both Russian society and the international community that Putin and the Russian political and military leadership can be convicted of crimes against Ukraine,” the text of the document says.

Last December, deputies of the European Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing the Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933 as genocide.
