Human rights activist Abubakar Yangulbaev suggested that Kadyrov exchange himself for his mother

Chechen human rights activist Abubakar Yangulbaev recorded an appeal to Ramzan Kadyrov, in which he offered to exchange himself for his mother Zarema Musayeva.

“<…> Kadyrov, if you consider yourself the personification of maximum masculinity in this country, you are obliged to let her go. And since it so happens that we have the rules of war and the laws in Russia and Chechnya do not apply, then let’s exchange her for me <...> And you can torture me, mock me, kill me, resurrect me, and do it all over again at least every day,” Abubakar Yangulbaev said in his address.

On the night of January 20, 2022, officers of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs broke into Musaeva’s apartment in Nizhny Novgorod and took her to Chechnya, allegedly for interrogation in a fraud case in the status of a witness.

The Committee Against Torture published camera footage showing how Musaeva was taken barefoot from the house, and then also barefoot to the car. Upon arrival in Grozny, Musaeva was sentenced to 15 days of arrest under the article of petty hooliganism.

On January 27, Musaeva’s status was changed to accused. She is still in jail. The security forces are not changing the measure of restraint, despite diabetes, due to which Musayeva’s health is constantly deteriorating.
