"Mitki do not want to win anyone." Dmitry Shagina’s painting “Telnyashki Day” was removed from the exhibition “Open” because of the “political subtext”

From the exposition of the exhibition "Open. On the 65th anniversary of the magazine “Decorative Art”, which was held in the All-Russian Museum of Decorative Art, they seized a picture of the founder of the St. Petersburg group “Mitka” Dmitry Shagina, entitled “The Day of Telnyashka”.

The director of the museum Elena Titova demanded to remove the picture from the exhibition, explaining this to the “political subtext” of the work. Probably, she was embarrassed by the inscription “Mitka does not want to win anyone,” present on the canvas.

“This is my old plot and it has nothing to do with any [war] at all, this slogan Mitkov was written [Vladimir] Shinkarev back in 1984. And on this occasion, no one ever made any complaints at all, ”said the author of the picture Dmitry Shagin.

He also said that on a printed banner with all the works of the exhibition in red, a banner with a slogan on a copy of his painting was painted over in red.

“The last time my work was banned in 1986 <...> how many years passed - 35, or something, and here again! Well, what is it! ”” Pontled the artist.
