Spanish police on Wednesday arrested British citizen Richard Masters. It is assumed that he was engaged in the affairs of the Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg in order to bring his superfort to his sanctions. He is also accused of laundering money.
The case against Master was opened by the US Department of Justice; The operation to detain him at Madrid Airport was carried out by the Spanish police together with the FBI and the American Ministry of Internal Security.
Richard Masters owns a majority company on Mallorca yachts. Among his customers, according to the police, there was also a “citizen of Russia who is prohibited by operations in the US market and with American companies,” it is allegedly about Victor Vekselberg. The company was also engaged in the yacht of the Tango Wexelberg, which in April 2022 was arrested by the Spanish authorities at the request of the United States because of the sanctions imposed on the oligarch. The US Ministry of Justice believes that after the arrest of arrest, the Masters company renamed the yacht from the Tango to Fantu to bring it out of the sanctions, and washed about 800 thousand euros for its maintenance.
The US authorities will require Masters's extradition, but so far there is no agreement on this.
In the same case, another alleged accomplice is taking place - Russian businessman Vladislav Osipov. He has not yet been detained.
