The profit of Russian banks fell 12 times

Central Bank of Russia

In 2022, the profit of Russian banks fell by almost 12 times. There has been no such low profit for seven years - since the crisis in 2015. This is due to sanctions against banks introduced after the start of military invasion of Ukraine. The data was published by the Central Bank of Russia.

The net profit of Russian banks in 2022 amounted to 203 billion rubles. In the record 2021, the profit was 2.4 trillion rubles, that is, 11.8 times higher. Banks showed the lowest profit in 2015 - 192 billion rubles.

At the same time, the Central Bank noted that the financial result was better than the forecast. "This result was also facilitated by the gradual restoration of the main income against the backdrop of a decrease in betting and growing business in the second half of the year , " the review said. According to the results of 2022, the banking sector compensated for a loss of 1.5 trillion rubles received in the first half of the year and received a “little profit”.

After the start of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, the authorities of many countries imposed sanctions against Russian banks - Sberbank, VTB, Alfa -Bank, Otkrytvy, Promsvyazbank, Rosbank, and the Socialist Republic. As the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank Dmitry Tulin said in an interview with RBC, banks lost about 1 trillion rubles due to sanctions, collapse in the markets and volatility of the foreign exchange rate.

According to the results of the first half of the year, the Central Bank estimated the loss of the banking sector in the first half of 2022 at 1.5 trillion rubles, in the second banks came to profit, and total losses decreased to 400 billion rubles.
