FT: Mongolia suffered due to anti-Russian sanctions

The economy of Mongolia suffered from the sanctions that were introduced against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. This was in an interview with Financial Times said the Prime Minister of Mongolia Luvsannamerain Oyuun-Ernene.

" Despite the fact that Mongolia is a democratic country, it also turned out to be under pressure because of the sanctions imposed against Russia ," the Prime Minister said.

According to him, Mongolia lost income from navigation fees that airlines paid for the flight over the territory of the country, after the Western countries closed their airspace for Russian aircraft, and Russia in response banned flights over 36 countries. After that, the airlines changed the routes, stopping flying through Mongolia.

Mongolia also faced difficulties in paying for fuel imported from Russia, since Russian energy companies and banks fell under sanctions. There was also a shortage of some daily goods imported from the Russian Federation.

According to the Prime Minister of Mongolia, economic sanctions should be imposed after extensive research, since they negatively affect other countries that are not involved in Russian invasion of Ukraine.
