A report was drawn up against Kazan sociologist Iskander Yasaveev for an extremist article because of a column about Putin’s decision to start a war

Yasaveev said that on January 30 he came to Center “E” to pick up things seized during the search on August 17 (the visit of the security forces was related to the case of justifying terrorism due to a video about the Russian ambassador to Poland).

“It turned out that the return of the confiscated property was only a pretext,” Yasaveev explained. According to him, an employee of the prosecutor's office of the Vakhitovsky district of Kazan came to the police and presented the sociologist with a resolution to initiate an administrative case.

The reason for drawing up a protocol on the extremist article was Yasaveev’s text “Like a boy or like a Soviet: why is Russia fighting?” on the website “Idel.Realii” (20.3.1 Code of Administrative Offenses). In the column, the sociologist discusses Vladimir Putin's decision to launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the connections between the president's actions and the culture of street gangs in the USSR.

“The country needs institutions that promote de-Sovietization—the elimination of the “Soviet man,” aggressive and helplessly patient, submissive and crafty, constantly building hierarchies. This is an education system free from the dictates of the authorities, independent trade unions, a parliamentary republic, open archives, museums and places of memory of repression,” the columnist wrote.

According to the conclusion of a specialist from Naberezhnye Chelny State University, Yasaveev’s text contains “signs of incitement to violent actions against a social group based on nationality.”

In October, the management of the St. Petersburg branch of the Higher School of Economics dismissed the sociologist from the position of senior researcher at the Center for Youth Research. Three days earlier, the Ministry of Justice declared Yasaveev a “foreign agent.”
