Almost $3 billion received from the sale of Roman Abramovich's Chelsea club will be donated to a fund to help victims of the war in Ukraine

The British authorities plan to transfer 2.3 billion pounds sterling (about 2.8 billion dollars) proceeds from the sale of the Chelsea football club to Roman Abramovich to a charity fund to help victims of the war in Ukraine within a few weeks. This was reported by The Telegraph newspaper, citing its sources in the government.

According to the publication, the British Charity Commission is now preparing to approve the transfer of funds, after which the operation must be finally approved by the European Union, since Abramovich is under EU sanctions.

In turn, Abramovich’s press service emphasized that the businessman does not have access to these funds, and the money from the sale of the club is at the disposal of the British authorities, so Abramovich is not involved in the process of their distribution.

The Telegraph writes that the fund to help victims of the war, the name of which has not yet been disclosed, will be headed by Mike Penrose, the former executive director of the British UNICEF. The organization is expected to unveil its leadership team as well as its future projects over the next few weeks.
