Dzhumaev is serving his sentence in correctional colony No. 3 in the Tambov region. Aunt Dzhumaeva reports that this is not the first time that the administration of the pre-trial detention center sends her nephew to a punishment cell on the eve of meetings with relatives: “They already tried once, and the meeting did not take place.”

In August 2021, Moscow State University student Dzhumaev was found guilty in the case of a fight with riot police at a rally on January 23 in support of Alexei Navalny. He was charged with an article about violence against government officials (Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code). Then he was sentenced to five years in a general regime colony; later this sentence was confirmed .
