Groundhog Day. 1993. Director - Harold Ramis
Exhaust, rude, rude and frankly toxic meteorologist Phil Connors arrives in the provincial town of Panksatoni, the Pennsylvania provincial town, to remove the plot about the predictive weather of the Surke . There he gets stuck in the second February for decades, but in the end he is sincerely imbued with humanistic ideas. Living the same day again and again, he becomes a master of icy sculpture, a virtuoso pianist, a francophile and an expert on the female soul. True, for this he has to go through the strongest depression and all stages of grief.
The philosophical comedy of the infinite February, which did not become a hit of rental 30 years ago, but over the years acquired a really cult status, marked the transition of Bill Murray to more dramatic roles and gave Hollywood the plot of temporary loops (although they could be found in the cinema earlier - for example, in the "mirror for the hero" Vladimir Khotinenko).
The first version of the script was written by Danny Rubin, who decided to unite the ideas of Anne Rice from novels about immortal vampires with the Christmas classic “This wonderful life”. Then the text was brought to mind by the director Harold Ramis, who worked with Murray on “ghost hunters”, “golf club” and “volunteers involuntarily”. Alas, on the set of Ramis and Murray, they quarreled mortally and then did not communicate almost until the death of Ramis in 2014.
Palm Springs. 2020. Director - Max Barbakov
The main therapeutic Feel-Good Movie of the first year of Pandemia, when the whole world was stuck in a temporary loop of self-isolation. In the center of the plot of the Sandansa hit is a charming Niles Oboltus, who was trapped in time at the wedding of unfamiliar people in the Koacello Valley. Once because of him, the longing sister of the bride Sarah comes into the same loop.
Unlike the “Surka Day” “Palm Springs” is a full-fledged Romk, in which the loop of time becomes the metaphor of the crisis in the relationship and unwillingness to grow up. If Phil Connors found the meaning of life and salvation in the help of neighbors, then Sarah and Nyls were bogged down in November ninth not because of karma or fate, but because of the reluctance to understand himself and study in mistakes.
The director of the Department of Max Barbakov managed to revive the genre of a romantic comedy, who is now clearly experiencing a crisis. Thanks not only to the fresh look at the “Surka Day”, but also to chemistry in the comedy duet Andy Samberg (“Pop-star: do not stop, don’t stop”, “Brooklyn 9-9”) and Christine Milioti ( “Toy for adults” , “Resource”), who filled the film with touching and romantic gags .
Two Distant Strangers. 2020. Directors - Travon Free, Martin Desmond Rowe
The only participant in the selection that received the Oscar is in the nomination "Best Short Film".
This is a 30-minute Netflix social tragicomedy about the Afro-American Commissioner (rapper Joey Badass), who is killing the New York Cop-Rasist (Andrew Howard) over and over again. Due to the one-dimensionality of the heroes, the “strangers” initially look like the release of Tom and Jerry, but by the final it becomes clear that, against the backdrop of protests after the murder of George Floyd, the authors wanted to talk about police violence and racism extremely straight. It turned out that the reception from the “Surka Day” allows you to highlight not only the internal flaws of the hero, but also the sore public problems.
Source Code. 2011. Director - Duncan Jones
After the crash in Afghanistan, the military pilot Kolter Stevens (Jake Jillenhale) comes to his senses in the body of another person - a school teacher who travels in a high -speed train in Chicago. Every eight minutes, the composition explodes - this is the simulation of the terrorist attack, into which the military sent Kolter's consciousness so that he could calculate the organizer of the disaster.
Duncan Jones, Saifau specialist (“Moon 2112” and “dumb”) and the son of David Bowie, also took as a basis the “surge” concept-and added techniques from science fiction, thriller, detective and even a little Body-Corror . On paper, all this may seem complete nonsense, but the “source code” instantly delays, and Jillenhale is so skillfully played confusing that it is impossible not to empathize with him. And there are alternative timeage - just like in Marvel !
Edge of Tomorrow. 2014. Director - Dag Lyman
The largest -budget film in this selection is a fantastic action movie based on the same name by Ranobe Hiroshi Sakurazaki.
Tom Cruise plays a cowardly press secretary of the US Army, Major William Cage, who is stuck in a temporary loop in a battle with alien monsters that captured Europe. In addition to Cage, with bastard, Sergeant Rita Ghobaska (Emily Blunt) bravely fights, she once got stuck in time. And yes, everyone is fighting in good old exoskeletons .
The original appearance of Cruise in Sifai, contrary to the expectations of the actor, did not make the picture a hit. However, after the release of the film in the digital rental, the Army of the fans appeared, which still requires Warner Bros. Continuations.
Koko-Di Koko-Da. 2019. Director - Johannes Nyukholm
Another temporary loop from the Sandance program, no longer dear Romkom, but a phantasmagoric art-crown about depression.
Two years after the death of her daughter, the married couple goes with a tent to the Swedish forest. There, over and over again, the mysterious Trinity kills them: the vile smiling old man in a white suit, the gloomy tweet with a dead dog in her arms and a woman with a living dog on a leash. Either sectarians, or circuses. Moreover, they kill with fantasy, sadism and songs about some kind of “coco-di coco-da”. All this looks like an evil fairy tale in the theater.
Using the achievements of Lynch, Trier and, apparently, Michel Gondri (not without animation and the Theater of shadows), the Swede Johannes Nyuholm conveys the alarming and joyless state of grief. In this “Surka Day” there is no longer a fun absurdity of existence, nor compulsory humanism, no self -development.
Happy Death Day. 2017. Director - Christopher Landon
You can turn the “Surka Day” into a cheerful, moderately stupid horror. The comedy slasher from Christopher Landon, the full-time screenwriter of the “paranormal phenomena” and the Blumhouse horror factory, is a kind of “scream” with temporary loops. According to the plot, a selfish (how else?) Student Teresa ends endlessly at the hands of a maniac on her birthday - he wears a baby's mask. To get out of the trap, she needs to calculate the killer among the inhabitants of the campus.
Gloomy slapstick , endless repetitions, pretty heroes, humanistic (in a slasher!) Message about virtue-we have already seen all this, but still the “happy day” looks fresh. However, an optional sequel to this horror is no longer so charming.
Russian Doll. TV series, 2019–2022. Showranner - Natasha Lionn
In the end - the main series in the sunset. Here, the developer of the video game, the swear and tear off Nadia Vulvokov (Natasha Lionn from the Orange-Hit of the Season ”and “ Pokerface ” ) falls into the temporary trap-she breaks her neck at the stuffy party in honor of her own 36th birthday, after which her groundhog begins.
And again: black comedy, slapstick , nihilism and humanism - the heroine is saved only when she begins to help her neighbors. It is already clear that the success of such stories is completely and completely kept on the main character and setting in which he lives. And here everything turned out: in the Dramedy Netflix hoarse artist Lionn, who seemed to be stuck on the second roles, finally had a chance to reveal all his potential. Talking about friendship and growing up, the authors of the “nesting dolls” explore the medium-aging and neurosis of freelancers from New York. In a word, they recall the importance of studying children's injuries.
