In December, judging by open sources, Ukrainian aircraft attacked targets on Russian territory nine times, five times military airfields. In the Saratov region, two Tu-95 missile-carrying bombers were damaged as a result of the strike, and a fuel tanker exploded in the Ryazan region. Before this, attacks by Ukrainian drones were not widespread; most often they were launched at targets in Crimea, as well as in border regions. Since the fall, the flight range of drones has increased exponentially. On October 7 last year, one of the Ukrainian UAVs fell in the area of the Shaikovka military airfield (flying 300 km from the border), and the drone that attacked the military airfield near Engels on December 5 flew more than 600 km from the border with Ukraine. About a quarter of the UAVs that have attacked Russia since December have flown more than 300 km from the border. Yesterday's UAV came closest to Moscow; it exploded about 200 km from Moscow.
Earlier, additional air defense systems appeared in the capital and region. In addition, an air defense system was installed near the Valdai residence of Vladimir Putin. Against this background, according to Vorstka’s sources in pro-government media, state media were prohibited from covering the drone explosion near Kaluga. Thus, the incident was completely ignored by TASS, Rossiya-24 and Vedomosti. Other government agencies wrote only short news with reference to the Kaluga governor.
