The premiere of the film "In Ukraine" was held at the Berlin Film Festival

At the 73rd Berlin Film Festival, the premiere of the documentary of Peter Pavlus and Tomash Volsky " in Ukraine " took place.

Peter Pavlyus spent two months in Kharkov, Nikolaev, Kyiv and other cities after the beginning of a full -scale invasion and removed how the fighting affected the lives of ordinary people. We see the distribution of humanitarian assistance, checkpoints, children playing in the war, women hiding from shelling in the subway, burned by Russian equipment.

Most of all in the film of destruction scenes: blown up bridges, devastated residential quarters, ruins of administrative buildings, abandoned things in dilapidated houses. Peter Pavlyus spent several days at the front near the border with Russia and shot how the soldiers in the forest listen to the sounds of an artillery duel, trying to determine whether the Ukrainian flew a projectile or a Russian one.

"Our film is about how ordinary Ukrainians live after the idiots in Moscow decided to start a war," says Tomash Volsky.

Fame was brought to the director, the documentary films “Another Country” (2020), mounted from the films of hidden observation and listening, preserved in the archives of state security of communist times, and “1970” (2021), based on the recordings of telephone negotiations of Polish officials in December 1970.

Volsky helped the director of the Department of Peter Pavlyus to mount the material shot in Ukraine.

“I am very interested in the usual in unusual circumstances-how people try to adapt and live normally. During the Second World War, I also had to get food and meet friends; people fell in love, children were born. They continue to live because nothing else left. It’s impossible to sit in their basement. In a sense, it is sad because we can get used to everything. They are used to - to air raids, sirens, destroyed houses, ”says Tomash Volsky.

The Berlinal program includes two more documentaries about the war in Ukraine. The American actor and director Sean Penn in the film " Superla " talks about his meetings with Vladimir Zelensky and other Ukrainian politicians. The premiere of the film Vitaly Mansky and Evgeny Titarenko " East Front " is also expected.

On February 24, a demonstration will be held on the red carpet at the festival palace as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine. The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Alexei Makeev, filmmakers and representatives of the Kyiv and Odessa film festivals will take part in it.
