A criminal case was opened against a military doctor who refused to go to fight in Ukraine

The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against a military doctor who refused to participate in hostilities in Ukraine. Pavel Chikov, head of the Agora International Human Rights Group, announced this on his telegram channel.

According to him, Denis Vasilyev graduated from the military medical academy with a degree in general practice in 2022. Since last summer, he has been serving with the rank of lieutenant in one of the military units of the Northern Fleet.

While still a cadet, Vasiliev treated military personnel for coronavirus while working in the “red zone”. For this, he was awarded the medal of the Russian Ministry of Defense "For the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic."

Having found himself in the army after graduation, the officer immediately filed a report for dismissal. But they did not have time to consider it before the announcement of mobilization in Russia, which, among other things, prohibits military personnel from resigning before it ends.

As a result, Vasilyev was offered to transfer to Franz Josef Land in the Arctic Ocean, to which he agreed.

Nevertheless, shortly before the officer was supposed to leave there, another order came to the military unit, according to which Vasiliev was ordered to go to the front in Ukraine.

The officer refused to carry out this order due to personal convictions. The refusal became the reason for initiating a criminal case under the article on failure to comply with the order during the period of mobilization. According to it, Vasiliev faces imprisonment for up to three years.
