CNN: During Biden's visit to Kyiv, Russia carried out an unsuccessful launch of the Sarmat missile system

During US President Joe Biden's visit to Kiev on February 20, Russia conducted unsuccessful tests of the Sarmat strategic missile system, CNN reports , citing US officials.

According to the TV channel, Russian authorities notified the United States in advance about the launch, but later did not report the results of the launch. The Sarmat complex should become the basis of the strategic forces of the Russian army and replace the Soviet-made Voevoda missiles.

There is no exact information about the launch time. Some CNN interlocutors reported that the tests took place before Biden’s arrival in Kyiv, while others said that this happened during the US President’s stay in the capital of Ukraine.

As the TV channel notes , if the tests were successful, Putin would mention them in his message to the Federal Assembly.

The Ministry of Defense has been developing Sarmat since 2011, the only successful launch took place in April 2022. In November, the head of the rocket development company, GRTs Makeev, Vladimir Degtyar announced the launch of mass production of the weapon.
