British intelligence: Russian marines likely suffered “extremely large” losses at Ugledar

The UK MoD said the Russian 155th Marine Brigade likely suffered "extremely heavy" casualties at Vuhledar. This is stated in the daily summary of the department.

In the pictures published by British intelligence, you can see the loss of Russian equipment near Vuhledar in the Donetsk region. Probably, the destroyed combat vehicles were part of an elite brigade of marines, the department notes.

Separate units of the Marine Corps have been attached to groups of forces dominated by ground forces, according to the British Ministry of Defense. “In this way, the Marines performed some of the most difficult tactical tasks in the war and suffered extremely heavy losses,” the report says.

British intelligence notes that the potential of Marine brigades is now almost certainly greatly reduced, as they are filled with conscripts instead of professional soldiers, exacerbated by micro-management by officers. However, there is a real possibility that they will again be thrown into the attack near Ugledar, the department writes.

The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in the latest report also indicates the use by the RF Armed Forces of an unidentified number of personnel of the 155th and 40th brigades of the Marine Corps of the Pacific Fleet near Ugledar. Earlier, ISW reported that 43 buses with Wagner PMC soldiers arrived in Melitopol, which probably represents the composition of one or two battalions. The ISW saw no visual evidence that they could have been transferred to Ugledar. Experts note that the RF Armed Forces could use the mobilized to make up for the shortage.

The VChK-OGPU Telegram channel reports, citing its source, that the 155th Marine Brigade of the Pacific Fleet “has developed a catastrophic shortage of shells,” and the Marines “perform unusual tasks in the Ugledar direction at the cost of significant personnel losses.”

On February 9, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the offensive actions of the Russian army, including in the Ugledar direction. A few days later, the head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, reported on "stubborn battles in the area of ​​Ugledar and Maryinka." The pictures released by British intelligence are also dated 9 February.
