Finland parliament approved the entry into NATO

On March 1, the Finland parliament supported the country's entry into NATO 184 votes against seven.

Representatives of the Left Union party voted against joining NATO. Seven more representatives of the parliament were absent at the meeting, one deputy abstained.

Now the bill will be aimed at approval by the President of the country Sauli Ninist.

Last spring, 188 deputies supported the decision to submit an application for joining NATO.

Also, members of the parliament today voted on issues that concerned, including nuclear weapons.

In order for Finland to become a member of NATO, Türkiye and Hungary must ratify this decision. In the Hungarian parliament, the debate should start today, March 1, and the vote itself to approve the applications of the two countries is expected in the second half of March.

At the moment, 28 countries of the North Atlantic Alliance have already supported the entry of Finland.

• Sweden and Finland in May 2022 abandoned the traditional neutrality against the backdrop of Russia's military invasion of Ukraine and submitted applications for joining NATO. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban promised the “soon” positive decision of the parliament on this subject. At the same time, Türkiye blocks the introduction, arguing that Stockholm and Helsinki did not fulfill the obligations to issue probable Kurdish extremists.
