Russians will begin to be fined for 5 million rubles, assign compulsory work and deprive of pirler for up to 15 years. All this will be awarded for the "discredit" of war participants in Ukraine. This was announced by the speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin.
He submitted the corresponding amendments to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Offenses to consideration by the State Duma along with other deputies.
“ This legislative initiative will protect everyone who, risking their lives today, ensures the security of the country and our citizens ,” Volodin emphasized.
According to him, “discrediting” will be considered any public distribution of “knowingly false information” about volunteer formations, organization and persons who “contribute to the tasks assigned to the RF Armed Forces”.
Volodin also stated that the first reading of the bill will be held today, and it is planned to accept it “in case of support” on March 14.
Earlier, the founder of the Wagner PMC Evgeny Prigozhin asked Volodin to protect the fighters from "discrediting".
" To prohibit public actions aimed at discrediting volunteers, including former prisoners, <...> including prohibiting publications of a negative nature and any criticism of the participants of Swarfish, as well as information about their past offenses ," Prigozhin suggested.
In particular, he complained that some media, telegram channels and bloggers "expose the defenders of Russia, people who give their lives for us, in an unsightly form, representing them with villains and criminals ."
At the same time, Prigozhin asked to establish the deadline for “discrediting” in the form of five years in prison. Volodin instantly responded to Prigozhin’s request and ordered to work out amendments to the legislation “urgently”. The head of the defense committees Andrei Kartapolov and the security and counteracting corruption Vasily Piskarev worked on the bill.
In March 2022, articles appeared in the Criminal Code of Russia for the dissemination of obviously false information about the Armed Forces of Russia (207.3) and public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces (280.3). The maximum term of conclusion on them is three years, but in case of aggravating circumstances, the period of imprisonment can be increased to ten years, and in serious consequences - up to 15 years.
