One of the creators of the Sputnik V vaccine was killed in Moscow. He was strangled by his own guest

Andrey Botikov, a senior researcher at the Gamaleya Center, who participated in the development of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection Sputnik V, was killed in Moscow. It is reported by RBC, citing a source in the territorial police department.

According to him, the murder took place in Botikov's apartment on Rogova Street in the north-west of Moscow. During a quarrel, the man was strangled by his own guest, whose name is not known.

In turn, the senior assistant to the head of the capital's central office of the Investigative Committee, Yulia Ivanova, specified that "the 29-year-old young man quarreled with the owner and strangled him with a belt." According to Ivanova, the killer was detained and admitted his guilt during interrogation. According to the Investigative Committee, the detainee was previously prosecuted for a serious crime.

Andrey Botikov was one of the co-authors of the patent for the Sputnik V vaccine. In June 2021, by presidential decree, Botikov, along with other scientists who took part in the development of the vaccine, was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree.
