The Prosecutor General's Office recognized Transparency International as “undesirable” in Russia

The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation has recognized the activities of the international organization Transparency International, headquartered in Berlin, as "undesirable" on the territory of Russia, according to the department's telegram channel.

As stated in the Prosecutor General's Office, the leadership of the organization is carried out by "citizens of foreign countries."

“It has been established that the activities of this organization clearly go beyond the declared goals and objectives. Formally acting as an organization fighting corruption around the world, it interferes in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation, which poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the Russian Federation, ”the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

The Prosecutor General's Office did not provide any other information explaining the reasons for being included in the "undesirable" list.

In April 2015, the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation entered the Russian branch of Transparency International into the register of non-profit organizations performing the functions of a "foreign agent".

In January, Transparency International released its annual Corruption Perceptions Index. It assesses the level of corruption in the public sector based on the opinions of experts and entrepreneurs.

According to the report, Russia dropped one spot from 136th in 2021 to 137th in 2022, with a Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) score of 28. In their report, the organization's experts stated that corruption in Russia "is ubiquitous."
