A Karelian official broke the rib of an animal rights activist who complained about the conditions of keeping dogs in his shelter.

On March 5, an employee of the district administration from Medvezhyegorsk in Karelia, Igor Derevyagin, attacked the animal rights activist Irina Porovoznik, who arrived at the municipal dog shelter under his leadership. This is reported by the publication "7 × 7".

As the media writes, the girl came to walk the dogs at the shelter, where she volunteered for several years. However, the employees refused to let her in, referring to the orders of the management. At their call, Derevyagin arrived at the scene. The official attacked Porovoznik: a video appeared on social networks in which he holds the girl by the throat and breathes a cigarette into her face. According to the volunteer herself, Derevyagin also knocked her to the ground and sat on her, and also beat her chest with his elbow.

In the animal protection group “Right to Life”, they posted a conclusion from the hospital to which the animal rights activist applied: the doctor recorded a fracture of the rib and a bruise of the trachea and sternum. The girl filed an application on the fact of beating to the prosecutor's office.

According to Porovoznik herself, the conflict is related to the complaints that she and other activists filed about keeping animals in a shelter. According to animal rights activists, dogs are not fed enough despite municipal funding, the cages are not cleaned, some animals die, and others are illegally released far from the city.

On March 7 , Igor Deveryagin, who broke the rib of the animal rights activist, was fired "by agreement of the parties." This was announced by his former boss, head of the Medvezhyegorsk district Maxim Antipov.

“Friends, each of us could make mistakes in our lives,” Antipov commented on the attack of a civil servant on activist Irina Porovoznik.
