British architect David Chipperfield received the Pritzker Prize - the highest award in the field of architecture

The British architect David Chipperfield became the laureate of the 2023 Pritzker Prize, which is awarded for achievements in the field of architecture.

“A thin, but powerful, restrained, but elegant, he is a prolific architect, radical in his restraint, demonstrating his reverence for history and culture, revered the previously existing buildings and the environment,” the awards said in decision.

David Chipperfield in 1977 graduated from the Architectural Association in London. He worked in the workshops of Richard Rogers and Norman Foster, in 1985 he founded his own David Chipperfield Architects bureau. Its bureau creates projects of public buildings and residential buildings in Asia, Europe and North America, it is also engaged in urban planning.

The jury of the award noted such work of Chipperfield as the River and Rowing Museum in England, the BBC headquarters in Scotland, the Turner Contemporary contemporary art gallery. In Russia, the Chipperfield Bureau participated in the restoration projects of the telegraph building in Moscow and the building of the Opera and Ballet Theater in Perm.

David Chipperfield became the 52nd Laureate of the Pritzker Prize in the field of architecture.
