Konstantin Khabensky would probably have removed all the work of Zhenovach: both “running” on Bulgakov, and “conspiracy of feelings” in Olesha, but the stars play, they can be offended. In a military performance, young artists were busy. They removed, the scenery was disposed of.

And suddenly the date rolled up: the anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad-the 80th anniversary of the defeat of the Nazis in the most famous battle of the Great Patriotic War. Just in the repertoire there was a performance-monument, collected the audience-and not. And there is a date. It turns out uncomfortable.

And here the fresh (relatively) artistic director of the Moscow Art Theater Konstantin Khabensky quickly creates a “stage composition”, which is based on ... “in the trenches of Stalingrad”.

Personally sets. With the same artists, with the new scenography - Nikolai Simonov. The costs do not confuse, and the actors have long learned the text. The name is "Stalingrad-Volgograd." The genre is a tour of the modern city, “youth, sports”, re -equipped, but with the military past.

Something turned out to be a pity-imperative, conjunctural. And - stolen. Something new in the 125-year history of Moscow art, just in the anniversary year. Everything was in his story, but this was not.

But these are not all the paintings that arise on the ruins of the former theater life. The distant relative of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater from Boulevard - the Gorky Moscow Art Theater - made and completed the repair. It is known: each decent new leader begins with repairs.
