The leadership of the Russian Premier League (RPL) announced the transfer of the match of the 19th round of the Russian Football Championship between Torpedo and Ural from the Moscow Luzhniki stadium to the Khimki Arena near Moscow. The team meeting is scheduled for March 11.
Earlier, a joint commission of the RPL and the Russian Football Union (RFU) conducted an inspection of Luzhniki and declared the stadium lawn unsuitable for the match.
Luzhniki refused to comment on the postponement of the match.
As Sports.ru writes , the probable reason for the deterioration in the quality of the lawn was the “patriotic” rally-concert held at Luzhniki on February 22 on the Day of Defender of the Fatherland. It was attended by Vladimir Putin, as well as Grigory Leps, the Lube group, Oleg Gazmanov, Shaman and other artists.
The organizers claimed that 200,000 people would attend the rally. During the event, spectators were both in the stands and on the lawn itself. Massive structures were also mounted on the field.
